What is Mountford Nursery?
We are an educational nursery catering for children from age three until they start school in Reception year.
Children are entitled to 15 hours a week of free sessions and each child attends five half-day sessions each week. The morning session runs from 8:30 – 11:30 and the afternoon session runs from 12:30 – 3:30.
What is nursery for?
Mountford Nursery is much more than convenient child-care. Nursery can set the tone of a child’s attitude to his or her whole school career. We want children to be happy here. A good experience of nursery gives them the foundation and impetus for all their later learning.
We believe passionately that children of nursery age learn through their play, and this is central to our educational plan. At Mountford Nursery, you can expect your child to take part in play every single day! Much of this play may take place in our outdoor area. But permeating this play is a carefully structured plan which builds progressively the skills your child will need for full-time school.
Learning to eat, and eating to learn
Food is critical to your child’s ability to focus on play and to learn. We provide a nutritious snack and a drink every day, and we ask for a contribution of £1 each week to pay for this.
The Early Years Foundation Stage
This is the statutory framework from the government which we work within to ensure that the children are getting all that they need. It is very detailed and is divided into various sections e.g. mathematics, physical development, literacy.
